Confusion Says

New version of Storm Worm possibly

I’m not 100% positive this is the Storm Worm, but it looks like it might be.

If you get a message from any of your IM buddies that gives a link and says:

“Your photos are published on this site :S”

Beware!

I tried messing with the file in a virtual machine but it errors out and will not install. Upon investigating this issue farther it looks like it might be related to Small.dam, which is a variant of the Storm Worm.

Relatively little is out about this “suspected file”. The only known program that I have tested it with that actually detects it is KIS 7.0, the rest do not. Most report it as a suspicious file.

The filename on my particular one was: hackman2007-photo12.com. However, based on whatever e-mail you are using it will change the beginning part where it says hackman2007.

Why you shouldn’t wait for Yorkfield or Nehalem

Lately, I’m seeing a lot of information on these two different micro architectures. The new Yorkfield’s are supposed to have 12MB L2 cache which will supposedly spring up all the programs that depend heavily on cache. However, is this really needed? Not really.

In all reality, I have never seen a difference between a single core and a quad core. I’m currently running a quad core Q6600 in my main machine, and I honestly still see the same lag that I see with dual and single cores. Is 12MB of cache going to improve this? Probably not. For a few applications such as Folding@Home, yes it will be very beneficial as the SMP client depends heavily on it.

For everyday users anything over a dual core is honestly overkill. The only time you are going to use this high-end of a processor is if you do encoding of any type or any type of extreme gaming.

Instead of waiting for these new high-end processors, I recommend that you get a new processor right now if you are wanting one, instead of waiting. I would recommend the Core 2 Quad Q6600 as it is future proof with quad core and fast enough for the next several years. There is absolutely no reason why you should wait if you aren’t a professional designer or some other occupation that requires such a processor.

The Oscars? I can watch live blogging online?

Hey guys, as you all know, Mahalo.com is a search engine that does a lot of live blogging. I am a very big fan of the live blogging since I am unable to watch the actual events myself. If you are in a similar predicament you know how frustrating it is to not be able to watch this kind of event.

Fortunately, Mahalo has a fix for this. See Here!

In case you get bored, you can also jump into the #Oscars channel on freenode, which is where I will be. If you have an IRC client, then copy and paste this into your browser to get there:

irc://freenode/Oscars

Hope to see you all there! Enjoy the Oscars!

Why the Fair Tax bill is not a good move?

I know I say that my blog is a computer weblog, but I’m going to stray away from this a bit to talk about the Fair Tax bill that is currently being supported by almost all the people running for President.

If the Fair Tax bill passes with the stated max of 30%, think of how much you will be paying for a certain good? You will be paying the normal price of 2008 (granted that it takes effect in 2009), plus the inflation that this will cause since the supply of the goods is going to over exceed the demand of the products, in addition to the max 30% tax.

The Fair Tax bill is supposed to shut down the IRS, but is this a good thing? ABSOLUTELY NOT. Think how many people live paycheck to paycheck and depend on a refund sometime during the next year. People will continue to spend money like they always do, but will still think they are going to get a refund somehow. In 6-12 months people will realize that they are spending all of their money and will not have anything to put into a bank. Because of this, it will cause most banks to shut down since they will run out of money and people will scramble to take their money out of the bank in order to pay their bills (which will by the way raise because the dollar will be worthless).

Also what happens to grants, unemployment, social security and other things funded by the federal government. If you give the government less money then they will not be able to offer these great services.

Before you think about hopping onto the bandwagon for this bill, make sure you know all the details of it. The future looks really grim if this bill passes.

Leopard on a PC?

Is this even possible? YES, it is possible. But why would anyone want to do this? Of course to have Mac OS X Leopard. The only problem is, you need to have an Intel processor. Without an Intel processor this will not work AT ALL.

It troubles me why Apple cannot make OS X run on more processor types, but until then we just have to wait.

At least we can run it on Intel processors. For this information See Here!.

If anyone has any questions let me know and I’ll see what I can do to help.

Well Mahalo has you covered!

This should be a very awesome race and hopefully everyone is able to watch this race. If you cannot, then at least you have an option to know what is going on real time.

Enjoy!
