Confusion Says

Missing person, Hilary McGann

No, I do not know this person, but was forwarded the link by a friend of mine. I really hate to see people go missing like this, so I thought I would venture away from my typical technology style and post a small blog on this. Here is a link to the page I’m referring to

If anyone has info on the person, please make sure you contact the available numbers: (402) 212-8504 or (402) 215-4440

MLB Network?

Okay, I just go over the fact that there is an NFL Network, but now it looks like, as of January 1, 2009, there will be a MLB Network.

This is not a good idea. Primarily because eventually major sports events like the World Series, All-Star game, Home Run Derby, etc will only display on these specialized channels. I know it is only set to display 26 games this next year, but come on, we all know it will display more the next year.

If you are one of the lucky people that get this channel without paying, lucky you, but unfortunately, a lot of people are probably going to be left in the dust.

Rowing For Hope

I’m a very big supporter in people that do this type of event for cancer research. Paul Ridley, wants to row across the ocean, which would be 2,950 miles according to his website solo. In case you didn’t know, that is an insane amount of rowing and also many days of rowing.

The guy is not asking for much, he is asking for donations, which I believe people should donate. Anyone that is willing to sacrifice their time and effort in order to help better the lives of other people is a very good person in my book.

So please join me in helping support Paul Ridley in his quest to row across the ocean. It doesn’t matter what you donate, even if is it just a little. Anything would help him.

In case anyone is wondering, I am not at all affiliated with this person. Heck I don’t even know who he is, but as far as I’m concerned he is trying to help, so I will help him help.

Also, to get this more into the press view, please digg this story on Digg.

Mahalo’ing in Style!

While browsing Valleywag this afternoon, I saw an interesting post about Sean Percival and his Audi.

Really I don’t see a reason for the above post by Audi, but after browsing the comments I noticed something extremely hilarious.

Obviously Mahalo staff workers know how Style or at least they think they do. I’m not really sure what exactly they are doing in the above photo, looks like just a reaction to the previous Valleywag article.

Anyways, thought I would share it. Enjoy the lolz

Some Radio Stations Annoy Me

Lately, I have been listening to a lot of radio stations. From what I have heard, there is one thing that ticks me off. This is also the reason that I avoid listening to radio stations at all costs. They never tell you the song name!  I know some radio stations do, but not all of them do. I am just focusing on the one’s that don’t.

Seriously though, if you are a music artist you want people to know the song. Sometimes I hear a song on the radio that I love, but I don’t know the song name. How exactly am I supposed to look this information up if I don’t know the song name or even the artist?

I understand that radio stations must make sacrifices in order to give people as much radio as possible while maintaining a strict budget, but wouldn’t more people (like me for example) listen to the radio if they actually gave the song name? More listeners = More advertising money.

It would only take a couple of seconds to give the name of the song. I understand it would cost a little bit of money, but I think it would be a worthy investment for a radio station to actually give the name of the song before the singer starts singing it.

Anyone else agree?

How To Carry Your PC With You!

If you are like me, then you hate using someone else’s computer because it is missing the things that you constantly use. For example, you like your own Firefox because you have custom bookmarks and everything. So here is a simple How To on using YOUR PC away from your PC.

  1. First you will need a flash drive with at least 1GB of storage capacity. I personally would recommend that you get a 2GB or above.
  2. Now go to the Portable Apps website and download the Portable Apps package. Whether you choose the really big one or the small base one is up to you.
  3. After you download the application, plug in your Flash Drive and extract the files to the Flash Drive.
  4. You now have a flash drive that is filled with all sorts of useful software, but only if you exploit the hidden talent of it.
  5. I’m going to assume that you are using Firefox. Your flash drive will automatically have a drive letter associated with it. Please take note of this drive letter.
  6. Now paste the following into the address bar: E:\PortableApps\FirefoxPortableTest\App\DefaultData\Profile
  7. This should take you to the Profile folder, now doubleclick My Computer (on your computer, not flash drive) and paste the following into the address bar. Please note you will have to change the username according to what username you use: C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USERNAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
  8. Right click and select Copy on the appropriate folder. DO NOT CLICK CUT!
  9. Now click into the flash drive window and right click and select Paste.
  10. The profile will now paste into the flash drive so all of your bookmarks and such are on the flash drive. Congratulations you just configured your flash drive to be exactly like your version of Firefox on your computer.

Now if all you could configure was Mozilla Firefox, that would not be very fun. You can do a lot more stuff too. You can save files and such directly on the flash drive instead of saving on the computer. Also when you browse the Internet, instead of the files going on to the host computer they go on the flash drive instead.

If for some reason you want a certain application that is not available, then check the Master List. If you still don’t see the software that you want, and you desperately need it, then either Search for the program you are wanting or make a new request for it Here.

Anyone that has any other suggestions on how to make your computer more portable, then please post in the comments so we all can benefit. Enjoy this short how to!

    Windows Vista Failed!

Everyday it seems more and more users are switching to Microsoft’s “new” operating system, Windows Vista. Unlike most, I have not made the switch because at this point it seems useless to do so.

From reading This Wikipedia entry it looks like Microsoft is planning on releasing the next version fairly soon, which means bye, bye Windows Vista.

I can think of no reasons why I would even want Vista actually. It’s slower, takes more RAM, and harder to use. I understand that I can turn UAC off, but why should I? I want to just use the operating system, I don’t want to have to tweak every aspect just to be able to use it. Not to mention that running games you take a 5-10% performance hit when comparing with a similarly configured Windows XP system.

From what I have seen (and yes, I have used Windows Vista so I know what it is like) Windows Vista looks like the “new” Windows ME. Judging from the way Microsoft slashed prices of Vista, it doesn’t look like it is going to be around too much longer before they pull the plug and bring out Windows Vienna, or whatever the new version is called.

    I’m predicting a release date of: 2009

The Oscars? I can watch live blogging online?

Hey guys, as you all know, Mahalo.com is a search engine that does a lot of live blogging. I am a very big fan of the live blogging since I am unable to watch the actual events myself. If you are in a similar predicament you know how frustrating it is to not be able to watch this kind of event.

Fortunately, Mahalo has a fix for this. See Here!

In case you get bored, you can also jump into the #Oscars channel on freenode, which is where I will be. If you have an IRC client, then copy and paste this into your browser to get there:

    irc://freenode/Oscars

Hope to see you all there! Enjoy the Oscars!

Why the Fair Tax bill is not a good move?

I know I say that my blog is a computer weblog, but I’m going to stray away from this a bit to talk about the Fair Tax bill that is currently being supported by almost all the people running for President.

If the Fair Tax bill passes with the stated max of 30%, think of how much you will be paying for a certain good? You will be paying the normal price of 2008 (granted that it takes effect in 2009), plus the inflation that this will cause since the supply of the goods is going to over exceed the demand of the products, in addition to the max 30% tax.

The Fair Tax bill is supposed to shut down the IRS, but is this a good thing? ABSOLUTELY NOT. Think how many people live paycheck to paycheck and depend on a refund sometime during the next year. People will continue to spend money like they always do, but will still think they are going to get a refund somehow. In 6-12 months people will realize that they are spending all of their money and will not have anything to put into a bank. Because of this, it will cause most banks to shut down since they will run out of money and people will scramble to take their money out of the bank in order to pay their bills (which will by the way raise because the dollar will be worthless).

Also what happens to grants, unemployment, social security and other things funded by the federal government. If you give the government less money then they will not be able to offer these great services.

Before you think about hopping onto the bandwagon for this bill, make sure you know all the details of it. The future looks really grim if this bill passes.

    Leopard on a PC?

Is this even possible? YES, it is possible. But why would anyone want to do this? Of course to have Mac OS X Leopard. The only problem is, you need to have an Intel processor. Without an Intel processor this will not work AT ALL.

It troubles me why Apple cannot make OS X run on more processor types, but until then we just have to wait.

At least we can run it on Intel processors. For this information See Here!.

If anyone has any questions let me know and I’ll see what I can do to help.
